Incendies

Director: Denis Villeneuve

Cast: Lubna Azabal, Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin and Maxim Gaudette

Canadian twins, Jeanne and Simon embark on an emotional journey to unravel the mysteries of their family history, after their Lebanese born mother passes away, leaving them only a few cryptic clues and a last wish for them to fulfil.

Adapted from Wajdi Mouawad’s acclaimed play, the film explores war, hatred and enduring love as the main themes to the twins’ quest for their family identity. Moving through both time and place, we are transported between Canada and Lebanon, present and past, as the narrative twists and turns upon itself. The shattering final revelation has a devastatingly emotional impact that reverberates long after the movie has ended.

Equal parts mystery thriller and family drama, it is a heart wrenching study of how ideological events can impact on personal lives across generations. See it if you enjoy watching a riveting story unfold while being informed about a sometimes forgotten conflict. Oscar nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.
